Privacy
Plain English. No dark patterns.
Anonymous by design
ColaSnob works fully without an account. When you contribute, your browser is given an anonymous IDso the engine can weigh your reports — it isn't tied to your name, email, or any real-world identity.
Optional accounts (email is for sign-in and alerts you ask for)
You can optionally create an account to keep your contribution history and tier across devices, and to save favorites. We use a passwordless magic link or Google sign-in; your email is used to sign you in and — only if you turn it on — to send the watch alerts described below. Never for marketing, and never shown publicly. Linking an account keeps your existing anonymous history (we don't create a second identity). You may add a display name, shown publicly only if you turn that on.
Email alerts (only what you watch)
If you watch a location, we can email you when its Diet Coke status changes or it goes stale. These emails are strictly transactional— only the specific locations you chose to watch, never marketing or anything you didn't ask for. You can turn email alerts off entirely with the master switch on your account, or unsubscribe from any alert email with the one-click link in its footer (no login needed) — and the in-app notification bell keeps working either way. We only ever email a verified address; anonymous visitors are never emailed.
Deleting contributions & your account
Deleting a contribution is a soft delete: it immediately stops counting toward the public map and ratings and leaves your active list, but the row is retained (marked withdrawn) so the engine can recompute honestly and admins keep an audit trail against abuse — not to track you. Deleting your account removes your personal data (display name, favorites, email link); your non-withdrawn reports and ratings stay on the map in anonymizedform, so the community data everyone relies on isn't silently distorted by a single departure.
IP addresses (abuse prevention only)
To stop spam and ballot-stuffing, we keep a salted, one-way hashof your IP address — never the raw IP. The hash is used solely for rate-limiting and abuse prevention, and it can't be reversed back into your address.
We don't sell data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data — full stop. Aggregate availability information (which places have Diet Coke) is shown publicly on the map; that's the whole point.
